Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is reportedly in talks to sign a new contract at the club, with his current deal set to run out in the summer.
According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United are in advanced talks with Ander Herrera over a new contract. The Spanish midfielder’s current deal with the Premier League heavyweights is due to expire at the end of the season, although he is eager to stay put at Old Trafford.
Ander Herrera has endured quite a stop-start stint at Manchester United, ever since he made his way from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014. A key player in two of the full seasons he has been at Old Trafford, the 29-year-old spent the other two campaigns in a reduced role.
But, 2018-19 has seen the player return to being an important figure within the first-team setup, particularly since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer assumed charge as the interim manager in December. With seven starts in the ten games that the Norwegian has overseen, it is safe to say that Herrera is well and truly, a regular once again.
More crucially, his reassuring presence alongside Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park has helped bring the best out of Paul Pogba, with Manchester United starting to dominate the midfield battle. But, in recent weeks, there have been major concerns surrounding Herrera’s future at Old Trafford.
The Spanish international is out of contract in the summer, and even though he reportedly wants to stay put at the Premier League club, there had been very little movement over a renewal. But, all that is set to change, with the report suggesting that Solskjaer is keen to see the 29-year-old extend his stay at Manchester United.
In fact, as per The Sun, the Red Devils are already in advanced talks with Herrera over a brand new deal, which is in line with their recent pursuit of tying key players down to new deals. Chris Smalling and Anthony Martial have already put pen to paper on a fresh contract, while deals for the likes of David de Gea, Marcus Rashford and Ashley Young are also in the works, as per widespread reports.
But, if the report from The Sun is anything to go by, a renewal for Ander Herrera could be set to be agreed upon, which will be good news for Manchester United fans.
