Anthony Martial is reportedly set to put an end to all speculation and agree a new deal at Manchester United.
If the reports by The Sun are to believed, Anthony Martial is expected to sign a new Manchester United contract, which would extend his stay at Old Trafford by 5 years. Initially, the Frenchman was reluctant to don the Reds’ jersey in the future as he was struggling under Jose Mourinho.
His agent, Lamboley then quoted,”After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United. There are lots of factors, and right now it’s too early to talk about them. Manchester United want Anthony to extend his deal and do not want him to leave but we have not reached an agreement for several months.”
After the ex-Portuguese manager was sacked, the English side are deeply engrossed in talks to retain Martial and make sure that he doesn’t depart the club in the summer transfer window.
The French left-winger joined Manchester United in 2015 in a €60 million deal under Louis Van Gaal. In his debut season he was the top goalscorer with 17 goals for his side.
In October, Mourinho tabled him an offer of £5.4 million-a-year which he rejected with spontaneity.
Even as late as December, the 23-year-old was staunch in his stance of not putting pen to the paper, despite United activating the one-year extension clause on his existing contract.
It is rumoured that Martial had fallen out of favour with the ex-Chelsea manager because of his attitude and perceived commitment in the game.
Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the French winger has gone back to his winning ways for good. He boasts of 8 goals from 18 outings this season and is in top notch form.
Former Premier League defender, Matthew Upson feels that Rashford and Martial are the pillars of attack in the lineup. He said, “It is a signal for me that they are moving forward and, especially with Marcus Rashford there, those two could be the future in that centre-forward position for them.”
Manchester United are currently striving to unload Fellaini and poach Eder Militao in the January transfer window.
Currently, Manchester United are going through a turbulent period. Under the new interim boss, the Red Devils need to reorganize themselves if they plan on qualifying to UCL next year. Anthony Martial’s presence at Old Trafford is vital for the squad to stay in contention for a top four finish.
