Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has reportedly emerged as a target for PSG, who are scouring the transfer market for a creative midfielder
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, PSG have set their sights on Toni Kroos in a bid to add a new dimension to their star studded squad. The German midfielder has recently been reported to be at loggerheads with Julen Lopetegui, paving way for an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
Kroos has been a stalwart for Real Madrid during his four-year stint at the club. During this period, the German international has helped transformed Los Blancos into powerhouses in Europe once again, doing his bit in their three successive triumphs in the UEFA Champions League.
But, his form has been questionable to say the least since the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. After producing sub-par performances for Germany, Kroos has been underwhelming for Real Madrid as well at a time when both club and country were struggling. To make matters worse, his future at the Bernabeu is uncertain, which has piqued the interest of PSG.
The French champions have been yearning to achieve success in the UEFA Champions League ever since Oryx Qatar Sports Investments took over the club in 2011. So far, PSG’s big spending ways have not yielded any results in Europe, even though they have become the single most dominant force in French football.
To make matters worse, one of their most influential players, Adrien Rabiot looks set to call it quits at Parc des Princes when his PSG contract runs out next summer. To that end, Les Parisiens are in serious need to make quality reinforcements in the middle of the park.
Thus far, PSG have been linked with a number of top class midfielders, with their latest target turning their attention towards Real Madrid. Kroos has the potential of being the perfect foil to the explosiveness that the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani provide in the final third with his creative output.
And, while Real Madrid could command a steep price for the German midfielder, it is unlikely to faze PSG, who have never shied away from splashing the big bucks to land their targets. But, the report suggests that Kroos is content in the Spanish capital, which puts Los Blancos in a convenient position.
A move could still be in the offing, however, if PSG manage to convince Kroos to join their project. For now, Real Madrid keeping hold of the 28-year-old seems like the likeliest outcome, especially in the wake of the midfielder expressing his support for under-fire boss Julen Lopetegui.
