Arsenal and Inter Milan are reportedly keeping tabs on Rennes winger Ismaila Sarr, who has been dubbed the “next Ousmane Dembele”
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Arsenal have set their sights on Ismaila Sarr, who has been likened to Barcelona superstar Ousmane Dembele. The Gunners are set to battle European giants Inter Milan in pursuit of the Rennes winger.
Ismaila Sarr is a player who has had a lot of excitement around him among European giants for a while now, having drawn comparisons with Ousmane Dembele. In fact, in the summer of 2017, the Senegalese international attracted interest from Barcelona, although the player ended up snubbing them to join Rennes instead.
Since joining Rennes, steady progress has been the name of the game. But, Sarr seems to have gone into the next gear since representing Senegal at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He has started the season strongly as well, and the interest in him has resurfaced, with Arsenal and Inter Milan keen on him.
Arsenal have started the season reasonably well, picking up pace since being defeated in their first two games against Manchester City and Chelsea. While their defensive frailties have been exposed all too often, the attacking unit has been the polar opposite for the Gunners, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette making hay.
But, there is still a sense that more dynamism can be introduced into the Arsenal attack, with the North Londoners bereft of a natural winger. Sarr is thus, a viable target, who has the potential to complement the abilities of their current attacking superstars perfectly.
But, Arsenal face stiff competition from fellow European giants Inter Milan. The interest from the Nerazzurri comes as a bit of a surprise though, with the likes of Ivan Perisic, Matteo Politano and Keita Balde already in the squad. Nevertheless, it looks like a two-horse race seems to brewing in the race to sign Sarr.
The 20-year-old is currently valued at around £20 million, which is unlikely to be prohibitive for either Arsenal or Inter Milan. But, the two European giants will likely have to wait till next summer to make a move for Sarr, with Rennes insisting that he will not be sold in January.
Rennes continue to bolster their reputation of nurturing attacking talents, with Sarr continuing the legacy of Ousmane Dembele. So, while Arsenal may not have been able to sign Dembele, they may end up landing another future superstar who can serve them well. It remains to be seen if they can beat Inter Milan to secure the services of Ismaila Sarr, whenever they make a move.
