PSV Eindhoven winger Hirving Lozano, who is also a target for Manchester United, has confirmed that Barcelona were interested in signing him in the summer.
As reported by TransferMarketWeb, Hirving Lozano has confirmed that Barcelona were in touch with his agent in the summer transfer window before adding that it would be a dream to play for the club. The PSV Eindhoven winger is also being tailed by Manchester United over a possible future move.
Lozano has seen his stock skyrocket since his exploits at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he was one of the best young players in action. The 23-year-old has only pushed on at the start of the season, with six goals and an assist in 8 games for PSV Eindhoven thus far this season.
He will now be eager to make a lasting impact on another new tournament, when he makes his debut in the Champions League main draw on Tuesday against Barcelona. And, the Blaugrana are one of the clubs that have been interested in signing him, alongside Manchester United.
To add more weight to the rumours, the Manchester United target has also added that Barcelona were keen on signing him this past summer, and were in talks with his agent. Lozano also iterated that it would be a dream to play for the La Liga champions one day, although he remains committed to PSV for now.
“Playing at Camp Nou is a dream of mine, and we’ll have to deliver our best effort in order to try winning it. Barça being keen on me last summer? It was real, my agent told me. Joining Blaugrana would be the best, but now I’m only focused on PSV.”
While they seem to have enough wingers in the squad now, Barcelona could have done with an explosive player like Lozano, who is equally adept at playing on either flank. But, with Ousmane Dembele and Malcom making for a long-term wing duo, it is uncertain as to whether Barcelona would make a move for the 23-year-old again.
Manchester United, on the other hand, have a dire need of signing a winger who can do the trick on the right side of attack. Currently, Jose Mourinho does not have a single player who can naturally take to the right flank, with Jesse Lingard the only player who has been able to make some sort of an impact.
Lozano is thus, a viable target for Manchester United, although the report doesn’t indicate as to when they will make their move for the player. For now, the Premier League heavyweights would fancy their chances of snapping him up.
But, with Barcelona being the preferred destination for him, Manchester United will have to step up their interest in the Mexican international, if they are to land him.
