Transfer News: Manchester United tipped to sign Barcelona defender Yerry Mina

Barcelona star Yerry Mina could be set for a move away from Camp Nou with Manchester United tipped to capture the Colombian international.

Following weeks of speculations, Yerry Mina is finally on the verge of leaving Barcelona this summer as Mundo Deportivo claim that the Colombian international has agreed personal terms with Manchester United. What remains is now for both the clubs to agree a transfer fee for the defender before they can officiate the move.

The addition of Yerry Mina might come as a sigh of relief for Manchester United, who have been constantly denied in their attempts of landing their desired defensive targets this summer.

Their pursuit of Toby Alderweireld, in particular, appears to have stalled. But, in the shape of the Barcelona defender, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will be handed with a decent alternative, who has the ability to make a difference at Old Trafford.

Barcelona, on the other hand, are prepared to let go of the Colombian international just six months after signing him from Palmeiras. And, the Blaugrana seem to have cleverly manipulated Mina’s impressive World Cup performance in order to snatch a good chunk of profit.

Mina’s move to Manchester United will also help Barcelona clear a non-EU slot for Arturo Vidal, who was signed from Bayern Munich this week. The transfer also makes sense for Mina himself, whose chances of becoming a regular at Camp Nou were reduced after the Catalans signed Clement Lenglet.

At Manchester United, however, the Colombian will be presented with an ideal chance of showcasing his talent in arguably the most competitive league in the world. The Red Devils have lacked quality in their defence for some time now with the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling failing to provide the necessary solidity.

As a result, Mina should not find it difficult to establish himself as a regular fixture in the Manchester United first-team setup alongside Eric Bailly. His sheer physical prowess coupled with his intimidating figure is tailor-made for the physicality of the Premier League.

But, it remains to be seen if he can replicate his World Cup performances in the English top flight next season, providing Manchester United reach an agreement with Barcelona over a transfer fee.
