Yerry Mina is attracting interest from Manchester United, with the Red Devils the latest Premier League club to enter the race for Barcelona star.
The Mirror claim that Manchester United are the latest club to join the race for Yerry Mina. The Colombian star is likely to be on his way out of Barcelona and is attracting a lot of interest from the Premier League, with Wolves, Everton and several other clubs interested in the defender.
He arrived in Europe in January, 2018, with Barcelona snapping him up from Brazilian side Palmeiras. The player was one of the standout performers for Colombia at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Mina scored 3 goals in 3 appearances for the Latin American side, averaging a Whoscored rating of 8.35, making him one of the best overall players in Russia.
Mina was the scorer of the goal that pushed England to extra time and ultimately a penalty shootout against Colombia, before the Three Lions triumphed.
The 6 months spent in Spain with Barcelona failed to add any kind of experience to the 23-year-old’s repertoire. A total of 6 appearances over the course of 6 months meant he was never really given a proper look-in into the first team. Mina has been linked with a departure from Nou Camp in search of regular playing time.
The Colombian was linked with a move to Ligue 1. But, it seems the Premier League has taken note of his ability after his performances at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Everton looked to be targeting him while Wolves have also submitted an enquiry for the 23-year-old.
Liverpool were also linked with a move for the Colombian international before switching attention to another World Cup hero, Croatian international Domagoj Vida, who looks poised to join the Reds. Manchester United though, have entered the race for the 23-year-old.
Jose Mourinho is not happy with a lack of movement in the transfer market from Manchester United and chief executive Ed Woodward. Among Mourinho’s priorities are a central defender, a left-back and a winger, according to reports. As far as the central defence is concerned, Manchester United have several options.
But, the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have failed to inspire much confidence. Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo on the other hand, do not look the same after recovering from their respective long-term injuries. Victor Lindelof will likely have performed his way into contention after a good World Cup.
But, the need for a central defender is nigh. Harry Maguire has been touted as the preferred option after Toby Alderweireld’s trail has gone cold for Manchester United. But, Yerry Mina could serve to be a brilliant deal for the club.
The 23-year-old is likely to be available for cheap, at least lower than the £65 million fee quoted by Leicester for Harry Maguire. To add to it, Yerry Mina will be hungry to prove himself in Europe and his ability on the ball will be a huge bonus for Manchester United, with only Victor Lindelof technically adept as of now.
Should Leicester pose much resistance as Manchester United pursue Harry Maguire, the Red Devils could instead move for Yerry Mina, who looks set to be one of the most talked-about transfer prospects in the current transfer market.
