Barcelona have reportedly submitted a late €40 million bid for Bordeaux star Malcom in an attempt to hijack AS Roma’s pursuit of the Brazilian attacker.
According to Daily Mail, Barcelona have launched a late hijack attempt for AS Roma target Malcom. The Brazilian winger was thought to be heading to Italy from Bordeaux. But, the Catalans have submitted a late €40 million bid in order to swoop in and prise the star away from AS Roma’s clutches.
Barcelona have been seeking the addition of a fiery winger to their squad in the current transfer window. Willian has been touted to be their preferred target. But, after seeing multiple offers for the Brazilian being knocked back by Chelsea, with the Blues holding out for £70 million, the Catalans are reported to have switched their attention to Malcom.
Malcom is one of the most exciting young talents in Ligue 1. After arriving from Corinthians in January, 2016, the Brazilian struggled to find his feet in the league in terms of consistent contribution to Bordeaux, despite the usual show of flair and talent on the pitch.
The 2017-18 season though, was a resounding success for Malcom. The winger ended the campaign with 12 goals and 8 assists to his name, adding returns to his repertoire of skills. With the Brazilian now able to convert his ability and talent on the ball into something tangible, he has been touted to be on the move.
Premier League clubs were interested in Malcom, with Everton leading the charge lately. But, the Toffees are reportedly set to sign Richarlison from Watford, which means they have ceded their interest in the Bordeaux star. AS Roma seemed to have struck a deal and were set to sign the player. But, the late entry of Barcelona might complicate matters.
Barcelona are likely to bid Ousmane Dembele goodbye after just one season, with the Frenchman looking to relaunch his career amidst new surroundings. With Chelsea not ready to budge on Willian, the Catalans have identified Malcom as an alternative.
The 21-year-old is younger than Willian, which adds more potential years of service while also costing less than the Chelsea star, according to the reports.
There is no update as to whether Barcelona’s offer has been accepted or otherwise. What Daily Mail speculate is that Malcom has failed to board his flight to finalise his move to AS Roma. There remain a few twists in the Malcom transfer saga, it seems.
