Liverpool could soon re-open talks with Lyon regarding the transfer of Nabil Fekir, who still wants to complete his dream move to Anfield this summer.
According to the latest report from Mirror, Nabil Fekir has made clear about his intentions of completing his ‘dream move’ to Liverpool. The French international was on the verge of moving to Anfield earlier this summer but the move didn’t materialize due to the faltering of medical details.
However, the Lyon midfielder is still willing to move to the Merseyside despite failing to complete the move earlier on. It is understood that Fekir has reached an agreement with club owner Jean Michael Aulas to at least re-open talks with Liverpool.
Aulas played a key role in Fekir’s initial transfer agreement and the midfielder will hope he can help facilitate the move once again after the World Cup. This could serve as a huge boost for the player, who, despite showing incredible promise in Ligue 1, is yet to showcase his talents on the big stage.
Although Fekir was included in France’s squad for the ongoing 2018 FIFA World Cup, the Lyon superstar hasn’t been a regular fixture in the French starting eleven. In their way to the final, he has featured for only 58 minutes across five games which is certainly not acceptable for a player of his calibre.
Thus, Fekir will be keen on proving his credentials as a top-class playmaker next season and a move to Liverpool could provide him with the perfect platform to showcase his talents. The Merseyside giants have been one of the most improved teams in Europe in the past 12 months with head coach Jurgen Klopp keen to improve further by bolstering his squad this summer.
The creative department, in particular, has been viewed as a weakness for the Reds ahead of the start of the new campaign. Despite boasting a star-studded attack, the departure of Philipe Coutinho earlier this year has left Liverpool a bit shallow in that area of the pitch with preferred alternative Adam Lallana struggling with lack of form and injuries.
Therefore, the 24-year-old is definitely a viable target for the Merseyside giants as they aim to make a strong impression next season. His excellent dribbling qualities coupled with his ability to find the perfect pass in the final third could make him a handful for the Premier League defences. But most importantly, it’s his dynamism and ability to wriggle through tight spaces which makes him a tailor-made fit for Jurgen Klopp’s tactical system.
At Liverpool, Fekir could feature as the number ten in a 4-2-3-1 formation with the trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane being deployed further upfront. Alternatively, he can also operate in a slightly deeper role alongside Naby Keita should Klopp opts for the 4-3-3 formation.
But in either case, Fekir’s creative force coupled with the attacking quality of Firmino, Salah and Mane are sure to make Liverpool one of the most feared teams in Europe next season.
Meanwhile, the Lyon midfielder is preparing for the all-important World Cup final against Croatia on Sunday. And a good performance in the final game of the coveted competition could definitely help once again pique Liverpool’s interest in the highly talented French playmaker.
