Arsenal and Manchester United are the latest entrants in the chase for Eintracht Frankfurt star and Croatian World Cup hero Ante Rebic.
German publication Bild are speculating that there have been the augment of new clubs in the race for Ante Rebic. The Eintracht Frankfurt star has been linked with a move to Tottenham, Everton and Bayern Munich. But, the entry of Arsenal and Manchester United will make things more interesting.
Ante Rebic has been one of the standout performers at the 2018 FIFA World Cup so far. Not even a guaranteed starter before the start of the event in Russia, his displays in the warmup games leading to the tournament saw the player being handed a start out wide against Nigeria.
But, it was his performance and goal against Argentina that propelled him to instant stardom. The player has since been a constant threat from the wings against each and every opposition. If Rebic was a wanted quantity in the group stage, the player’s valuation and number of suitors are both set to increase with Croatia entering the final.
Tottenham and Everton were interested in the player since the start of the World Cup. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, were obvious suitors. Niko Kovac is seeking a reunion with Ante Rebic after taking up the managerial position at Bayern. But, with Eintracht escalating the player’s asking price to €50 million, Kovac is a bit hesitant knowing that the board might not be willing to shell out such a big amount for the Croatian forward.
This clears the path for Arsenal and Manchester United, who are the newest entrants in the race.
Unai Emery will be looking to add a few new faces to the Arsenal attack as well, something he has managed to do in other areas already. The Gunners have recently announced the capture of Lucas Torreira and have also done a deal to sign Matteo Guendouzi.
But, the attack is still bereft of a new face, which is where Rebic could be of use. But, there are reports that Emery has managed to exhaust almost the entirety of the summer transfer budget. If that is indeed the case, we are unlikely to see Arsenal move in for Rebic, especially at a €50 million valuation.
Manchester United need a right winger to add to their squad. The Red Devils are linked with a move for Willian and Xherdan Shaqiri. But, the Brazilian seems to be heading to Barcelona, with Liverpool favourites to land Shaqiri, at least for now.
This leaves United with new targets to find and Rebic could be the answer. In form and on an upward trajectory for the last year or so, Rebic could command the right flank. One problem though, is the fact that Rebic too, prefers the left flank.
While he has shown that he can do it on the right as successfully, his arrival could compound the problem of the attack being too left-heavy.
Manchester United and Arsenal are interesting projects. But, Tottenham are considered outright favourites for the 24-year-old.
Spurs need to add to their attack, with Harry Kane not really having much support. Also, Mauricio Pochettino would love an in-form alternative to Kane, should the English superstar be rendered unavailable for a stretch of games. Son Heung-Min has been commendable thus far.
But, Tottenham’s squad does feel one player shy in attack. In all, Rebic looks set to be the next player to be earn a big money move on the back of the World Cup. The specific destination might not be as clear. But, it looks like Rebic will be plying his trade in the Premier League in the 2018-19 campaign.
