PSG have reportedly set their sights on Ousmane Dembele, who is likely to be sold by Barcelona in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Don Balon, Ousmane Dembele is the subject of interest from PSG, who are plotting a raid on Barcelona for the second successive summer transfer window. Unlike last year though, the newly crowned French champions are unlikely to be met with any resistance from the Catalan giants.
Dembele joined Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund last summer with a burgeoning reputation of being one of the most promising young attackers in world football. His only season at Westfalenstadion had been extremely productive, which had brought about a sense of excitement over his signing among Barca fans.
However, the campaign that has ensued has been one of struggle, with poor form and injuries restricting Dembele’s game time considerably. The player has managed just 20 appearances in all competitions, with 2 goals and 7 assists to show for his efforts, and there have been reports of dissatisfaction over his signing at Barcelona.
Unsurprisingly, it has given way to murmurs of the Frenchman facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou. Indeed, the report confirms the same, suggesting that Barcelona are open to the idea of Dembele leaving, and his position seems to have piqued the interest of the Blaugrana’s recent nemesis in the transfer market, PSG.
The newly crowned French champions are set to see Unai Emery depart from Parc des Princes, with Thomas Tuchel reportedly set to take charge next season. The German manager has already started laying down his plans for the summer, and is keen on bolstering an already fearsome attacking unit.
PSG already boast the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani in their squad, with Angel Di Maria and Julian Draxler also among the backup options. But, Tuchel reckons he can do with someone like Dembele setting things up for the frontmen.
Tuchel does know Dembele’s qualities quite well, having managed his best ever season at Borussia Dortmund before both departed the Signal Iduna Park. With Barcelona ready to offload the 20-year-old, PSG would fancy their chances of snapping him up, unless some other club emerges in his pursuit.
Dembele’s potential departure also has the green light from Messi, who has been unimpressed by the player this season. With Barcelona looking set to sign Antoine Griezmann in the summer, Dembele won’t leave much of a void by departing from Camp Nou, clearing the way for PSG to land him.
It now remains to be seen if the player’s stint at Barcelona indeed comes to an end after just one season, with PSG looking like the favourites to sign him and reunite him with Thomas Tuchel.
