Arsenal are prepared to make a big offer for another one of Lyon’s academy products and a star of the current Ligue 1 season, Nabil Fekir in the summer.
Arsenal have broken their transfer record twice in the last two windows and could be in line to spend the big bucks again this summer with a reported interest in bringing Lyon’s Nabil Fekir to the Emirates. The Sun say that the Gunners have stepped up their long-standing interest in the French attacker to finally complete a summer move.
Arsenal have endured an undeniably poor 2017-18 campaign. But, while defence has well and truly been shambolic all through the campaign, the Gunners’ usually fearsome attacking unit hasn’t been all that consistent, which has been part of the reason for their sub-par performances.
Despite the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the January window, Arsenal’s hierarchy strongly feels a need for another top class attacker. Nabil Fekir’s name has been suggested more than once in the past years, and this summer could be the window when they finally bring the Frenchman to London.
Fekir is a Lyon academy product, and his agent has suggested he could be on the move this summer to one of Europe’s top clubs. Last summer Arsenal broke their transfer record to purchase another one of Lyon’s academy products in striker Alexandre Lacazette and this summer they are in line to raid the Ligue 1 club once more.
Fekir’s relationship with Lacazette when they played together could play a crucial part in him choosing his next club. After Lacazette’s sale, Fekir has taken the mantle at Lyon and has had a superb season which has seen him score 22 goals in 37 appearances and provide 7 assists in all competitions this season.
This form has attracted Arsenal and the price quoted here is upwards of £50 million, around the similar figure that the Gunners paid for Lacazette. Fekir’s presence in this Arsenal team could give the Londoners a new dimension in attack, something they have been missing all season.
Fekir’s form has helped Lyon to second spot on the Ligue 1 table, but there are concerns Marseille and Monaco could yet pip them for a Champions League spot by the end of the current campaign. But his agent’s comments seem to have more or less confirmed the player’s intention to move on in the summer.
Arsenal’s latest interest, if it has any genuine motive behind it, has to materialise as soon as possible. Other heavyweight clubs including Real Madrid are also reportedly interested in Fekir’s services.
Whether Arsenal break the bank again to sign Nabil Fekir in the summer or if they are pipped by another one of Europe prominent clubs has to be seen. As the European and English season comes to a close, transfer activity is set to rise tremendously, and Fekir could just be on his way to the Emirates.
