Juventus have reportedly set their sights firmly on Aaron Ramsey, and are set to rival Manchester United in pursuit of the Arsenal midfielder.
According to a report by Italian outlet CalcioNews24.com, Aaron Ramsey is the subject of interest from Juventus, who are eager to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window. The Arsenal midfielder is also being chased by Manchester United, with little over one year remaining on his current deal.
Ramsey has established himself as one of the most enterprising midfielders in the Premier League over the last few seasons, having put a gruesome leg injury behind him. A mainstay in midfield for Arsenal, the Welshman has come into his own this season, and has been one of the more prolific contributors for the Gunners.
In 25 appearances across all competitions so far in the current campaign, Ramsey has an impressive record of 9 goals and 10 assists. But, with a little over a year remaining on his current deal at Arsenal, concerns are mounting over an Alexis Sanchez-like situation, that saw the Chilean join Manchester United.
Coincidentally, Manchester United are one of the clubs that are interested in Ramsey as well, and are plotting a summer move for him. The Premier League heavyweights though, face stiff competition from Juventus in pursuit of the Wales international.
Juventus are in the market for a midfielder for the third successive summer window, with Claudio Marchisio and Sami Khedira on the wrong side of 30, and linked with moves away from the Allianz Stadium. The Bianconeri’s priority is reportedly Emre Can, but negotiations to land him on a free transfer seem to have hit a roadblock.
Ramsey has, thus, emerged as a viable target for Juventus, who could add some valuable goals from midfield in Turin. Meanwhile, at Manchester United, Jose Mourinho is eager to sign at least one midfielder in the summer, with Michael Carrick set to call time on his career and Marouane Fellaini highly likely to depart on a free transfer.
The Red Devils have, thus, set their sights on a player they had nearly signed in 2008 before he joined Arsenal. But, Manchester United’s interest in Ramsey is a tad bit surprising, considering the Welshman is almost identical to Paul Pogba in the way he operates.
Adding Ramsey to the squad will only create unnecessary overload in another area of the pitch, like Sanchez’s arrival has for the left side of attack. Arsenal, on the other hand, are desperately trying to tie the player down to a new deal and keep him from the clutches of Manchester United and Juventus.
What appears certain is that both Manchester United and Juventus are keen on Ramsey and are set to launch the offensive for him this summer. The operation will cost both clubs around €40 million, which isn’t much of an ask in the current market conditions, and it remains to be seen if either club can prise him away from Arsenal.
