Transfer Rumour: Barcelona set €30m price tag for Andre Gomes

Barcelona are reportedly open to considering offers for Portuguese midfielder Andre Gomes in the summer.

Barcelona are preparing to cut their losses on midfielder Andre Gomes and are willing to offload him for a €30 million fee in the summer transfer window, according to reports from Spanish outlet Sport.

Barcelona signed the 24-year old from Valencia in 2016 for a fee in the range of €35 million plus €20 million more in variables, with then manager Luis Enrique extremely keen on adding the Portuguese to his squad after a breakthrough campaign with the Los Che in 2015/16.

However, things failed to click for Gomes at Barcelona as he endured an extremely poor debut campaign with the Blaugrana finishing with just 3 goals and 3 assists in 47 appearances across all competitions.

There were reports that Gomes could be set to depart the Camp Nou in the summer of 2017 itself, but the player decided to stay and fight for a place under the new regime of Ernesto Valverde. But his situation has failed to get any better with the 24-year old producing returns of just a solitary assist in 28 games in all competitions.

The player recently admitted to having a difficult time at Barcelona and is now understood to have asked the current La Liga leaders to allow him to leave at the end of the season, as he looks to resurrect his career that has hit a low after a very bright start.

Premier League giants Manchester United have been constantly linked with a move for Gomes in the past couple of transfer windows and their interest could once again be piqued with Barcelona now reportedly setting a fee of £30 million for the Portuguese international.

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Serie A champions Juventus too are monitoring Gomes’ situation and could be in line to make a move at the end of the season.

So, it appears that there is no shortage of suitors for the 29-time capped Portuguese international at the moment. And a strong run in the summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia with the Seleccao could further help his bid in securing a move away from the Camp Nou.

There is no question that Gomes is a very talented player, but unfortunately things just have not worked out for him at the Camp Nou. It remains to be seen where the midfielder will be plying his trade in the 2018/19 season, but one thing is for certain at the moment – the curtains are set to be drawn on his time with Barcelona.
