Transfer News: Tottenham set to launch £40 million summer move for Wilfried Zaha

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly reignited their interest in Wilfried Zaha and are plotting a £40 million summer move for the Crystal Palace winger.

According to a report by Daily Mail, Tottenham are determined to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace in the summer transfer window. Spurs are set to lodge a £40 million to secure the services of the former Manchester United winger.

Wilfried Zaha has gone on to rediscover the swagger and form that saw him earn a move to Manchester United in the summer of 2013. While his career at Old Trafford was a failure, the player has gone on to establish himself as one of the most exciting attacker in the Premier League at Crystal Palace.

Over the last three seasons, the former Manchester United outcast has been the Eagles’ talisman, so much so, that they haven’t won a single game that he hasn’t played since September 2016. His personal record though, could do with some improvement, with Zaha only bagging 4 goals and 3 assists in 22 appearances.

His exploits haven’t gone unnoticed either, with several clubs attempting to sign him in previous transfer window. One such suitors are Tottenham, who have already been rejected twice in pursuit of Zaha, and are ready to make a third offer for the Palace man in the coming summer transfer window.

Spurs did bolster their attack in January by adding Lucas Moura to provide a pacy outlet out wide, But, Son Heung-Min is the only other reliable option on the wings, which is why the need to beef up the wide areas has come up once again, considering Erik Lamela has never managed to convince at Tottenham.

Zaha is, thus, a viable target for Tottenham, who are set to lodge a £40 million bid for the player. The report suggests that the Ivory Coast international is open to a move away from Selhurst Park, even if Palace avoid relegation at the end of the season.

But, the only stumbling block for Tottenham in pursuit of the former Manchester United winger is the player’s valuation as per Crystal Palace. The Eagles feel that that Zaha is worth more than £40 million, and will look to recoup as much money as possible from his sale.

What looks highly likely is that Zaha’s time at Crystal Palace is nearing its end. It remains to be seen if Tottenham can secure his services in the summer, and if so, the stint turns out to be anything unlike his disastrous spell at Manchester United.
