Manchester United have reportedly reached a “gentleman’s agreement” with Benfica over a €40 million deal for Anderson Talisca, currently on loan at Besiktas.
According to a report by Portuguese outlet A Bola, Manchester United are closing in on a summer move for Anderson Talisca. The Premier League heavyweights have reached an agreement with Benfica over a €40 million deal for the Brazilian forward, who is currently on loan at Besiktas.
Talisca has come into his own during his loan spells at Besiktas over the last two seasons. The player has, in fact, been one of the standouts in the Turkish Super Lig in this period, and his exploits have helped him make the Brazilian squad for the latest international fixtures, suggesting that he stands a chance at making the flight to Russia as well.
An impressive tally of 16 goals and four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions to boot, it is not hard to see why Talisca is courting interest from several clubs. Chief among them are Manchester United, who have been following the player’s progress for a long time.
In fact, the Premier League heavyweights had attempted to sign Talisca last summer as well, before a move failed to materialise. The continued interest in the 24-year-old though, comes as bit of a surprise, with Manchester United’s need to sign a winger who can be deployed on the right flank being more urgent.
Talisca, meanwhile, operates through the middle, either as an attacking midfielder or a support striker, a role that has been reprised by Jesse Lingard and Alexis Sanchez, of late. Nevertheless, the player remains the subject of interest from Manchester United, who have reached an agreement with Benfica over a summer move.
The report suggests that Manchester United have reached a “gentleman’s agreement” with the Portuguese outfit to sign Talisca in a €40 million deal. Besiktas though, are also in the race to sign the player, with the Turkish club having a €21 million purchase option to make his stay permanent.
In the end, the final decision would rest on the Brazilian’s shoulders, with both Manchester United and Besiktas keen on signing him on a permanent deal. What looks highly probable is that Talisca’s future lies away from Benfica, who have little option but to cash in on the interest.
