Bayern Munich are reportedly plotting a move to bring Toni Kroos back to Allianz Arena in the summer, with Manchester United also interested in him
According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Toni Kroos could be on his way back to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window as they prioritise the addition of a midfielder. Manchester United are also in the race to sign the Real Madrid midfielder.
Kroos has long been regarded as one of the best playmakers in the world, having progressed leaps and bounds since joining Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2014. In the last four years, he has struck a fine partnership with Luka Modric, with the duo leading Real Madrid to unprecedented success.
The 2017-18 season has been a bit of a lull for the most part for Kroos, who still has decent return of four goals and seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions. But, the player remains highly sought-after in the transfer market, with Manchester United holding a long-standing interest in him.
The Red Devils have been after him for nearly four years now, having attempted to sign him from Bayern Munich before he eventually joined Real Madrid. Manchester United are now set to launch another offensive, with Jose Mourinho making it clear that he will prioritise the recruitment of a midfielder in the summer.
Michael Carrick will not be a part of the Manchester United first-team setup as he will call time on his career. With Marouane Fellaini likely to depart from Old Trafford as well, the need to sign a midfielder has accentuated, with Kroos potentially a like-for-like replacement for Carrick.
But, Manchester United are not alone in pursuit of the player, with Bayern Munich interested in him as well. The Bavarian giants do not have a shortage of midfielders, with Leon Goretzka set to be added to their ranks as well in the summer.
But, Arturo Vidal and Thiago Alcantara are being heavily linked with a move away from Allianz Arena, while Javi Martinez is on the wrong side of 30, which would explain why Bayern are interested. And the Bundesliga heavyweights might just have an ace up their sleeves, which could help them usurp Manchester United in pursuit of Kroos.
Bayern recognise that David Alaba’s time at the club is coming to an end, and will use Real Madrid’s interest in the Austrian to clinch a deal for Kroos. But, what gives Manchester United a distinct advantage in pursuit of the German midfielder is that he is tempted by a move to the Premier League.
Things are, therefore, hanging in the balance, with Manchester United and Bayern Munich in pursuit of Kroos. It now remains to be seen how things develop as we approach the summer transfer window, when Kroos’ time at Real Madrid could come to an end.
