Borussia Dortmund have reportedly joined the race Jadon Sancho, and are set to battle Arsenal and Tottenham for the Manchester City whizkid.
According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Borussia Dortmund are the latest entrants in the race to sign Jadon Sancho. The Bundesliga heavyweights have joined Arsenal and Tottenham in pursuit of Manchester City wonderkid, setting up a three-way battle for the youngster.
Sancho joined Manchester City from Watford in 2015, and has since rapidly progressed through the ranks to be on the cusp of making the senior grade. Indeed, the player has already appeared for the Citizens’ reserve side in the Premier League 2, despite being all of 17.
In fact, his development has been so impressive that Sancho is not just rated as an promising young player within Manchester City academy setup, but is also regarded as one of the most highly-rated prospects in England.

The youngster’s record last season speaks for himself, as he made 35 appearances across all competitions for City, bagging 20 goals and 8 assists in the process – impressive numbers for a winger. However, his journey with the Citizens could be set to come to an end after just two years.
City have been trying to tie the England under-17 international to a new three-year deal as they believe that the player has a bright future at the Etihad. But, Sancho is stalling on signing the contract as he wants more assurances of first-team football.
His concerns, though, have been aggravated after Pep Guardiola left him out of his squad for the pre-season tour to USA. As a result, it looks highly likely that Sancho will leave Manchester City this summer in search of pastures anew, with Arsenal and Tottenham heavily linked to him.
At Arsenal, the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are all being linked to a summer exit from the Emirates. Thus, positions could be up for grabs in Arsene Wenger’s first-team setup.
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino is eager to make reinforcements in attack, with the likes of Erik Lamela and Moussa Sissoko failing to make an impact for Tottenham. The duo are likely to leave this summer, leaving Pochettino with Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-Min as his only recognised options.

Therefore, Sancho is likely to be fast tracked into the first-team setup, should he move to either North London club this summer. However, Arsenal and Tottenham aren’t the only clubs in his pursuit with the player attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund as well.
The Bundesliga outfit have been on a mass recruiting spree of up-and-coming talents, having signed the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Alexander Isak and Emre Mor in the last twelve months. On top of that, the likes of Christian Pulisic, Julian Weigl and Felix Passlack are fine examples of Dortmund’s success stories in the youth department.
The aforementioned is likely to entice Sancho to consider a move to the Signal Iduna Park this summer, although the presence of several recognised options in attack is likely to hamper his progression to the first-team setup.
Thus, Arsenal and Tottenham stand a better chance at securing the player’s services this summer, as he is likely to get a lot of minutes of first team football at either North London club. It now remains to be seen where his next destination lies as an exit from Manchester City looms large.
