Arsenal are reportedly prepared to table another bid for Lyon attacker Alexandre Lacazette
According to Claudio Colla of Transfer Market Web, Premier League side Arsenal are back in the race for Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette. The Gunners were interested in the player a few months ago, and are now looking table another offer worth €40 million for his services.
The France international made his intentions of leaving crystal clear at the end of the Ligue 1 season and was nearing in on a move to his “dream club”, which was understood to be Atletico Madrid.
However, due to the withholding of their FIFA imposed transfer ban, Atletico will be unable to sign or register players for this transfer window, thus denting Lacazette’s aspiration to join Los Rojiblancos.
This even threw water on Antoine Griezmann’s plans to join Manchester United after he played up all the rumours linking him with a move to Old Trafford. As Atletico were left unable to replace him, the French forward opted to stay put in the Spanish capital.
So with how things stand, Lacazette is considering moves to other clubs and Arsenal are looking to bring him to the Emirates in the summer. Manager Arsene Wenger promised that the club will invest in the window, and is rumoured to be interested in signing his compatriot.
Olivier Giroud has been handed a number of chances, but has failed to maintain a level of consistency that is needed for him to be a regular at Arsenal. The striker has gone on for lengthy spells without scoring, and has lost the belief of Wenger.
Danny Welbeck, on the other hand, has shown tremendous promise, but has suffered with a number of injuries since moving from Manchester United, and thus cannot be banked on by the French manager.
Lacazette is far from being an injury-prone player and has maintained a level of consistency during his time at Lyon. He could be a perfect fit in Wenger’s system and could thrive with the creative forces such as Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil playing around him.
However, if the Gunners are to sign the player they will have to act quickly as the race to secure his signature is heating up. The London club’s Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester United have been heavily linked with the Frenchman.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp appears to have missed out on the signing of Mohamed Salah, and is likely to turn his attention to Lacazette. Jose Mourinho too, wants to sign the Frenchman, as he is looking to fill in the void left by Zlatan Ibrahimovic, after he was released by the club on Friday.
