Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will only listen to offers from Real Madrid or Barcelona, according to Borussia Dortmund’s chief executive.
Borussia Dortmund chief executive, Hans-Joachim Watze has claimed that his club’s star striker will only entertain offers from La Liga heavyweights Barcelona or Real Madrid in order to move away from the Signal Iduna Park in the summer.
As reported by Daily Mail, Watze was speaking on Sport1’s Doppelpass programme and he remained confident that Aubameyang will remain with Dortmund in the summer as he said: “I think he will stay with us.”
However, he also added that Aubameyang will only consider offers from Real Madrid or Barcelona, if any came his way. He added: “But if Real Madrid or Barcelona come along with an offer, maybe he’ll think about it.
“The rest of the clubs who are interested in him are not really an alternative for him. And certainly not Bayern [Munich] because we wouldn’t allow him join them.”
Aubameyang moved to Dortmund from Saint-Etienne in 2013, and in the four years since then, his stock has constantly been on the rise. So much so, that he has now evolved into one of the best strikers in the world.
2015/16 was the best ever season in Aubameyang’s senior career, as he finished second in Bundesliga’s top scorers’ charts with 25 goals, with only Robert Lewandowski (30) surpassing him. The Gabonese striker has already equalled that tally in the current campaign to romp to the top of the goalscoring charts this time around.
With 6 games still left to be played, Aubameyang will almost certainly enjoy the most fruitful season of his career, and it goes without saying that he is one of the most prolific strikers playing the game today. So, it is not a surprise that he has grabbed the attention of several clubs across Europe.
In fact, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG have all shown an interest in signing the striker, but they will all face disappointment in their pursuit of Aubameyang, according to Watze.
Real Madrid have also been heavily linked with Aubameyang, with the 27-year-old even expressing his desire of securing a dream move to Real Madrid to take his career to the next level, and it remains to be seen if Los Blancos indeed make an offer to sign him in the summer.
With Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata both being linked with a summer exit from the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid could indeed be in search of a top quality striker come June. Meanwhile, it looks unlikely that Barcelona will make an offer for Aubameyang, with Luis Suarez already going great guns.
Watze has previously claimed that Dortmund will only entertain bids over €80 million to trigger a serious discussion over a move. It now remains to be seen if the two Spanish giants come up with an offer to sign Aubameyang, with the two clubs remaining his only possible destinations.
