Juventus will ask Arsenal to sell them Aaron Ramsey should Miralem Pjanic move to Arsenal, according to reports.
Reports emerged yesterday that Arsenal were interested in signing Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, despite the Bosnia and Herzegovina international only joining the Bianconeri this past summer. According to Calciomercatoweb, Juventus will ask for Aaron Ramsey in return should Pjanic make the switch to Arsenal.
Arsenal are said to be preparing a £28m offer for Pjanic, with Wenger seeking a long-term replacement for the injury-ridden Santi Cazorla. At 32, many feel that Cazorla may even depart the Emirates at the end of the season and Wenger has apparently lined up Pjanic as his long-term successsor.
Reports stated that Wenger has already spoken to Pjanic, and that the midfielder is very interested in a move to Arsenal.
Pjanic is a midfielder who could fit right in at Arsenal. He has made 19 appearances for Juventus this season in the Serie A and Champions League, and has picked up 6 goals and 6 assists in the process. Pjanic is a technically sound player who has a wide passing range, and is also skilled at taking set-pieces.
The report states that Arsenal’s representatives have called the Juventus hierarchy to inquire as to the availability of Pjanic. It adds that Giuseppe Marotta took advantage of this call and used the opportunity to ask Arsenal about the availability of Aaron Ramsey in return, with a view to signing him in the summer.
The 26-year old has had a stuttering campaign thus far, with injuries keeping him sidelined on a regular basis. Ramsey has also struggled to break into the team ahead of Santi Cazorla, Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Granit Xhaka.
With Mesut Ozil the untouchable first choice at No. 10, Ramsey has also rarely featured in his favoured position.
The Welshman has only managed 13 appearances this season – 6 of which have come as a substitute – and picked up 2 assists in the process. He has yet to open his goalscoring account for the season and has looked off the pace whenever he has played. Should Ramsey’s struggle to break into the first team continue, there could be a chance he chooses to leave Arsenal.
Ramsey will only have one year left on his contract after this season and there has been no talk of a contract extension just yet. Ramsey was linked earlier in the season with an unlikely move to Real Madrid, but should Arsenal’s interest in Pjanic prove to be more than just a rumour, Juventus could tempt the Welshman away from the Emirates.
