Out of favour Arsenal right-back Mathieu Debuchy is reportedly set for a move away from the Emirates Stadium, with Marseille preparing a loan deal for the Frenchman.
Club Call have reported that Ligue 1 side Marseille are ready to offer a temporary lifeline to Arsenal outcast Mathieu Debuchy, with Les Phocéens interested in signing the France international on a six month loan deal in the January transfer window.
Debuchy has had a nightmarish time as an Arsenal player. Signed from Newcastle United in 2014 to replace the departing Bacary Sagna after impressing in the North East as well as in the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Debuchy looked set to nail down his spot as the club’s first choice right-back.
However, just a couple of months into his Arsenal career and Debuchy suffered a devastating ankle injury that ruled him out for three months. Young Spanish fullback Hector Bellerin stepped up in Debuchy’s absence and the then teenager filled in ably in the Frenchman’s stead.
The impressive development of Bellerin alongside Debuchy’s recurring injury problems have meant that he has fallen down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, and has frustratingly managed just 13 appearances for the North London outfit.
This season Debuchy has notched up just a solitary outing for Arsenal, and his frustrations continued as he managed just 15 minutes of action in the 3-1 win over Bournemouth before being subbed off due to a hamstring injury.
With Bellerin back into the side after recovering from an ankle injury that sidelined the Spaniard for more than a month, Debuchy is set to go back to the fringes at the Emirates Stadium once he recovers from his own injury issues.
The reported loan deal from Marseille therefore, represents Debuchy’s best opportunity for first-team football action this season. And, the report adds that the offer from Marseille is similar to that from Bordeaux that saw the fullback move to the French club last season.
A move to Marseille will also see Debuchy reunite with manager Rudi Garcia under whom he played while at Lille, winning the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles in the 2010/11 season. Garcia however, needs to act quickly on his interest as clubs from Italy and Turkey are also keeping tabs on Debuchy, according to the report.
