Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Barcelona ace Ivan Rakitic, who is yet to sign a new deal with the Catalan giants.
Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo are claiming that Manchester United have reignited their interest in Barcelona ace Ivan Rakitic. The Red Devils are back on the Croatian’s trail with Jose Mourinho hoping to solve the midfield crisis.
Manchester United signed four players in the summer, which included two midfielders in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Paul Pogba. While Paul Pogba has slotted into the team and Jose’s 4-2-3-1 formation, there has been ambiguity over the perfect player to partner the Frenchman in the holding midfield.
Mourinho has already tried the likes of Fellaini, Herrera, Carrick and Schneiderlin in different matches with Carrick and Herrera emerging as two of the most successful of the players. Michael Carrick’s presence is thought to be also appreciated by the fans with visible differences in stats and results.
But, Mourinho requires dynamism in each player of the midfield, something which no player in the current squad seems to able to provide. In such a situation, Mourinho has been tipped to delve into the transfer market in January to find the perfect partner to Pogba.
Manchester United, along with other Premier League clubs, were credited with interest in Ivan Rakitic with Rakitic rumoured to have rejected the Red Devils and Chelsea in the summer. As per recent reports, the Red Devils are back in contention for the midfielder. Rakitic has been often considered as a complete midfielder with the ability of being deployed with similarly impressive results in a holding role as well as an attacking role in the midfield.
Barcelona have renewed contracts of many players and Ivan Rakitic’s extension is thought to be the next in the priority list. Ivan Rakitic has already made the world aware of his admiration for Barcelona and his will to continue playing for the Catalan giants.
This rumour, to be fair, may just end up being that; a rumour. Barcelona seem unwilling to part with Ivan Rakitic, who has become an unassailable component of the Barcelona machinery under Luis Enrique and the player himself wants to stay.
