In the most exciting game of the weekend, Liverpool and Arsenal dished out a seven-goal thriller that saw Jurgen Klopp’s Reds’ emerge victorious over Arsene Wenger’s Gunners.
Liverpool and Arsenal games have never been short on goals in the past, with the last 8 games between these two sides dishing out 30 goals. Sunday was no different as the sides played out an entertaining and adrenaline-pumped 4-3 thriller, with the Reds’ emerging victorious over the Gunners’ at the Emirates for only the second time in their last 20 visits.

Jurgen Klopp’s side did not start out too well as his side conceded a penalty in the 27th minute after a poor tackle from much-maligned Spaniard, Alberto Moreno. Simon Mignolet did save the ensuing penalty from Walcott, only for the England international to make amends 69 seconds later to give Arsenal the lead on the evening. Fans did not mince words as they ripped into Moreno for his horrific defending and lack of positional awareness that eventually led to the goal.
27: PENALTY TO ARSENAL: Moreno with a rash tackle on Walcott.
— Anfield HQ (@AnfieldHQ) August 14, 2016
Oh Moreno…..
— Linn B (@Linn_LFC) August 14, 2016
Karius are you watching? ?
— Aakriti Mehrotra (@Aakriti1) August 14, 2016
Poor penalty from Walcott, but Moreno is a real liability for Liverpool. Surprised he features so regularly.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) August 14, 2016
30: GOAL! Walcott fires past Mignolet with a low driven shot. Moreno way out of position. 1-0 to Arsenal.
— Anfield HQ (@AnfieldHQ) August 14, 2016
1-0 Arsenal, and guess who is out of position Moreno
— Mersey Reds (@MerseyReds1) August 14, 2016
Less time for two-footing people in the box and his commitment to being out of position, mind pic.twitter.com/CMpRXoBwIR

You haven’t watched shit football until you’ve seen Moreno attempt to play LB in a football match.
— Kloppholic (@Kloppholic) August 14, 2016
Jon Flanagan with no legs is defensively better than Moreno.
— Kloppholic (@Kloppholic) August 14, 2016
Now that is how you bounce back from missing a penalty. Walcott with a tidy finish.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) August 14, 2016
Moreno would be better at Left Wing, not bad going forward but defensively he’s a spastic

68 seconds after missing a penalty, Theo Walcott totally redeems himself! #AFC #AFCvLFC

Just when it looked like the Gunners were heading into half-time with their noses ahead, Coutinho equalized with a sensational free-kick to beat Petr Cech and level the scores for the Reds.
That’s a stunning free-kick from Coutinho. Arsenal could be out of sight but somehow #LFC are level on stroke of HT

World class free kick by all means. Coutinho has been training on’em during preseason, I knew it was a matter of time before he masters it.
— Seleção Brasileira (@BrazilStats2) August 14, 2016
That is a deliciously accurate free-kick from Coutinho.

The second half, however, saw Klopp’s ‘heavy metal football’ in full swing as Liverpool demolished the Gunners in the space of 17 minutes to go 4-1 up. Lallana, Coutinho and Mane chipped in to help the Reds take the game by the scruff of the neck.
What is it about Adam Lallana goals that makes Jurgen Klopp lose his glasses !
— John Bradley (@JBcommentator) August 14, 2016
1 – Adam Lallana has scored his first away PL goal since January, when he scored the winner in the 5-4 v Norwich. Comeback.
— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 14, 2016
I do like Lallana. Silky footballer with a terrific work ethic. More finishes like that and he’d be exceptional.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) August 14, 2016
That’s a great goal. Vision from Wijnaldum to pick out Lallana, who took that brilliantly. This game has been transformed #LFC
— James Pearce (@JamesPearceEcho) August 14, 2016
I tell you what, Adam Lallana under Jürgen Klopp is some player. Fair play to him. Pretty football.
— Liam Canning (@OffsideLiam) August 14, 2016
19 – There were 19 passes leading up to Coutinho’s 2nd goal against Arsenal. Silky.
— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) August 14, 2016
No one seems to be talking about the amount of passes Coutinho second goal was #awesome
— dashy1 (@daveashy) August 14, 2016
Two weeks of transfer window left to keep Coutinho here. pic.twitter.com/1XzWpaPRkG
— Paul (@Kolology) August 14, 2016
I love how valued and appreciated Coutinho is at Liverpool. Way better than being a bench player at a club able to currently win more cups.

Pace, power, skill and left foot finish. Welcome to @LFC Mr Sadio Mane.
— AnfieldIndex (@AnfieldIndex) August 14, 2016
This is why I’ve always liked Sadio Mané. So electric and unpredictable. Add consistency to his game – wow. https://t.co/hXqwL70duN
— Liam Canning (@OffsideLiam) August 14, 2016
Theo Walcott
Adam Lallana
Sadio Mané
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Calum Chambers5 of the 6 goal scorers today used to play for Southampton ?
— Footy Jokes (@Footy_Jokes) August 14, 2016
Sadio Mané – signing of the sumner. Trust me.
— ㅤㅤ (@CoutinhoFlair) August 14, 2016
However, the substitutions of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Santi Cazorla did bring in some much needed creativity and pace to their attacking endeavours. It almost paid off for Arsenal as the Gunners pulled it back by two more goals to make it 4-3. Chamberlain and Chambers scored the goals as Wenger’s side came in with a chance to nick a point, or even more, from the game with 15 minutes still left to play.
Idk why AW didn’t start him after the preseason he had.. Well done Ox!
— Arsenal News ⚽️ (@__arsenalnews_) August 14, 2016
Boos and chants of ‘spend some f***ing money’ ringing out at Emirates after Liverpool’s fourth goal. The Ox pulls one back seconds later.
— Chris Wheatley (@ChrisWheatley_) August 14, 2016
The OX will change the game.
— Arsenal Related ⚽ (@ArsenalsRelated) August 14, 2016
Blimey. What a game. Suspect Chambers was marginally offside but makes for a grandstand finish.
— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) August 14, 2016
Chambers heads home and it’s 4-3. Crazy game. #LFC need to show some composure here.
