Tottenham face an anxious wait before pursuing a move for Bart Verbruggen amid interest from Bayern Munich and the subsequent delay in Manuel Neuer’s decision.
The goalkeeping market could see plenty of movement, with Manuel Neuer’s impending decision on his future right at the centre of a massive saga. As per Team Talk, Tottenham are waiting on the German veteran’s decision before beginning their pursuit of Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen amid interest from Bayern Munich.
A section of the goalkeeping market looks rather complicated, with Manuel Neuer right at the centre of this saga. The German veteran had earlier hinted that he could decide on his future around Easter, but has now pushed the idea back to after the second leg against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
His performance in the first leg against Madrid showed that, even though he just turned 40, he still has it in him to perform at a high level, after picking up the Player of the Match award. However, strong rumours in Germany indicate Neuer could announce his departure from the game, or at least from Bayern Munich, before the end of the season, with the Bavarians linked to Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen.
The Netherlands international is expected to leave Brighton for a bigger challenge, with the growing interest in the keeper set to allow the Seagulls to cash in on him in a big way. The pending decision from Neuer continues to complicate even Bayern Munich’s pursuit of the Dutchman, while there are other teams waiting in the wings, notably Tottenham.
Spurs had earmarked Verbruggen as a replacement for Guglielmo Vicario even before the January window, and they retain an interest. However, there’s a feeling the 23-year-old Premier League star might prefer to make the switch to Bayern Munich if the club came in with an offer, although everything on that front depends on Neuer.
Tottenham to bring in a new goalkeeper?
The future of Vicario could be away from Spurs, amid heavy links to Inter Milan in recent weeks, as the Italian might make a return to Serie A. Tottenham are looking at several options in the market amid links to Manchester City star James Trafford as well as Verbruggen, despite all the complications surrounding the Dutchman’s chase.
Spurs are in a strong financial position to pay what’s necessary to sign Verbruggen in the summer, although they might have to fight off the relegation battle successfully for that. The Dutchman could potentially establish himself as the No. 1 choice for years to come in north London, but he might prefer a switch to Bayern Munich as a priority if an opportunity arose.
