Gabriel Martinelli would prefer to stay at Arsenal and be a key part of their long-term plans, but the club may have different ideas.
Arsenal could have yet another pivotal summer transfer window that could see some of their current stars leave, including Gabriel Martinelli. The Brazilian has other plans, as he is keen to continue at the club as per Football Insider, and be a key part of their long-term plans.
Arsenal are preparing to charge down the market for new players in key positions, including the left-wing slot. Mikel Arteta is reportedly considering a change of personnel on the left flank, especially after worrying numbers from the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard this season.
None of those wide attackers have managed to nail down a starting position, more so Martinelli, who only has a goal and three assists in the Premier League. Despite playing 25 times in the league, the Brazilian has only made nine starts in the competition, which has fuelled speculation that he could be sold ahead of the summer, amid reports the Gunners want at least £50 million.
Garbriel Martinelli has been a weapon for Arsenal in the Champions League, which is quite contrasting compared to his form in the Premier League. On the continental front, the Brazilian has six goals and a single assist, including the one for Kai Havertz in the late win over Sporting CP on Tuesday night away in Lisbon.
Martinelli has 17 goal contributions overall this season, including five in the FA Cup, which does make him a key player for Arsenal. However, amid talks of an exit, the winger wants to stay on at the club and be a part of their long-term plans, although Arteta and the north Londoners may have different ideas.
Will Arsenal sell Gabriel Martinelli?
Given the performances from Martinelli and Trossard, it is expected that at least one of them departs, with the former carrying more value. He had interest from Barcelona earlier, while PSG were linked lately with a move, which signals that the Brazilian does have a massive reputation in the market.
Arsenal are linked with Anthony Gordon as an example, while there are other players they are keeping close tabs on simultaneously. As for Martinelli’s future, he has a year left on his existing deal, with an option to extend it by another season, which does give the Gunners leeway in negotiations. Despite the Brazilian’s wish to stay put, things could be different ahead of the summer, including a possible exit.
