Liverpool could prioritise a move for Yan Diomande as Mohamed Salah’s replacement in the summer, with his cost likely to prove challenging.
According to Fichajes, Yan Diomande is shaping up to be the potential Mohamed Salah replacement in the summer that Liverpool might target. The Ivorian winger is certainly at the top of the club’s shortlist for the next window, although RB Leipzig’s asking price could become the challenging part of this pursuit.
Liverpool fans were dealt the news that Mohamed Salah will depart the club after nine years at Anfield. The Egyptian has been a scintillating presence for the club since he arrived from Roma in 2017, winning the Champions League and lifting the Premier League trophy twice during his nine years here.
While the fans are expected to be very emotional as Salah comes to the end of his reign, Liverpool have a big task on their hands in finding an able replacement. There are significant doubts whether any winger in today’s market can replicate the Egyptian’s numbers, although some viable candidates are being mentioned in media reports.
Liverpool are prepared to pay as much as €200 million for Michael Olise, as per reports, although Bayern Munich are taking a stance that the French winger is not for sale. Juventus’ Francisco Conceicao is another one linked, whilst Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye has also been mentioned, although the latter will be extremely difficult to sign.
Yan Diomande’s name has been in the mix for some time now, as earlier reports suggested Liverpool had plans to pursue the Ivorian even before there was any news on Salah’s exit. Liverpool have watched the RB Leipzig winger on occasions, which suggests they are actively tracking his performances, which have brought about 19 goal involvements for the German side this season.
Yan Diomande to Liverpool?
Diomande is a peculiar profile, as he can play on both wings, and might end up suiting Liverpool’s requirements. The Reds are thought to be ahead of rivals in the race, although the 19-year-old Ivorian winger might carry a prohibitive price tag.
Leipzig are in a powerful position when negotiating Diomande’s sale, as they are reportedly seeking at least €100 million for the winger. Whether Liverpool are willing to pay as much for a young attacker with barely a season at the top level is the question, although they might be willing to make enquiries and negotiate with the German giants for their prized asset.
