Barcelona are prioritising a summer move for Tottenham defensive sensation Luka Vuskovic, and have already opened talks with his camp.
While Barcelona are focused on retaining the league title and going all the way in the Champions League, their management has already started planning for the next summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are all set to prioritise defensive reinforcement, and they have already identified their top target.
According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona’s priority for the summer will be to sign Tottenham’s teenage defensive sensation Luka Vuskovic. They consider him an ideal player to rejuvenate their backline.
Vuskovic came up the ranks at Hajduk Split. On the back of his impressive rise and two successful loan spells, Tottenham struck a deal with the Croatian club to sign him last summer. But they ended up sending him out on loan to Hamburg.
While the North London club do rate him very highly, they were unsure about handing him enough minutes. As a result, they sanctioned a temporary departure to ensure he continues to develop at a similar pace.
He seems to be loving life in Germany. The teenager has featured in 24 matches for Hamburg. He has been a rock at the back and has even contributed towards six goals. While he is set to return to his parent club in the summer and his contract there runs until 2030, Vuskovic’s future has become a massive talking point.
Vuskovic is a priority target for Barcelona
Ideally, Spurs wouldn’t want to negotiate his departure. But with the club fighting for survival in the English top flight and their project going nowhere, Barcelona beleive they can prise the teenager away from the North London club.
They feel a deal could be struck for around €40 million because of Tottenham’s current situation. Hansi Flick’s the man driving Barcelona’s interest in the 19-year-old. Since the club haven’t been able to replace Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo is struggling for consistency, the German manager is desperate to further strengthen his defensive rotation.
He considers Vuskovic an ideal fit for his system and the club’s long-term plans. While Barcelona were initially looking for a left-footed centre-back, the Croatian international is two-footed, and they believe he could do the job for them. With Andreas Christensen also set to leave, the Catalan giants are pushing very hard to land the 19-year-old.
They have already held talks with the player’s camp, and those discussions have been very positive so far. They are looking to take advantage of Tottenham’s situation, and the intention is to move quickly to beat the competition to his signature.
