Arsenal and Manchester United to face stiff competition from Liverpool in their pursuit of West Ham midfield sensation Mateus Fernandes.
Mateus Fernandes has taken his game to the next level since joining West Ham, and his impressive rise hasn’t gone unnoticed. With the Hammers fighting for survival, multiple top clubs are looking to poach the Portuguese youth international this summer.
Arsenal and Manchester United are both keen on signing the youngster, as they look to reinforce their midfield. But according to a report from Fichajes, the Premier League duo are set to face competition from rivals Liverpool.
After making a name for himself at Southampton, Fernandes made the move to the London club last summer. He managed to establish himself as a key figure in their team in no time. So far, he has been involved in 29 matches across competitions and has contributed towards seven goals.
While the 21-year-old prefers playing as a central midfielder, he is capable enough to feature in any role in the centre of the park. His versatility, technical ability, physical prowess and massive potential make him a dream target for some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The Hammers are aware of the increasing interest, and they value him at around €65 to €75 million, with his contract running until 2030. Despite the high valuation, there is no shortage of interest in the youngster.
Premier League giants to battle for Fernandes
Arsenal are the most serious suitor at this stage. Their sporting management are massive admirers of Fernandes and believe he is the perfect fit to bolster their midfield further. They seek more depth, and the 21-year-old can certainly strengthen their midfield rotation.
However, securing his services won’t be easy because of West Ham’s high demands and the competition for his signature. The Gunners want to move swiftly to avoid a bidding war, but that looks unlikely with Manchester United and Liverpool also keen on his signature.
The Manchester-based giants seek more quality in the centre of the park with Casemiro leaving and Manuel Ugarte likely to be sold. Fernandes can certainly help their cause. While the asking price makes life difficult for them, there is a special clause in his contract which will make him available for just €32 million if the Hammers get relegated.
Liverpool have also been put on alert because of the clause. The Reds are closely monitoring his situation as they seek more competition for places in the centre of the park.
