Newcastle United eyeing Dominic Solanke swoop

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly keen on acquiring the services of 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur striker Dominic Solanke.

According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle United are on the lookout for a new striker ahead of the 2026/27 season, and they have identified Dominic Solanke as an ideal fit for their system and their project. The Tottenham forward ticks a lot of boxes for Eddie Howe, who is keen on a reunion.

Solanke made quite a name for himself while playing for Bournemouth. On the back of his impressive performances for the Cherries, Tottenham forked out an initial £55 million to add him to their squad in the summer of 2024.

While Spurs had massive expectations from the English international, injuries have not allowed him to hit top gear yet. The 28-year-old is back fit and slowly getting back to his best. Despite the club’s struggle, Solanke is managing to put in some impressive performances.

The Englishman’s contract at the North London club runs until the summer of 2030, but his future is up in the air amidst interest from multiple top clubs. Given their struggles, Spurs will be vulnerable to offers this summer. Meanwhile, they won’t be able to hold onto him if they suffer relegation.

Newcastle United plot a raid on Tottenham for Solanke

Newcastle United have emerged as the biggest contenders for his signature. While the Magpies signed Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade to cope with Alexander Isak’s departure, things have not gone according to plan for them, and they are looking to add more quality in the final third.

The Tyneside outfit consider Solanke a perfect fit for their project. He ticks a lot of boxes in terms of the qualities they need in their new striker. The player has a great bond with Eddie Howe, having worked under him during his time at Bournemouth, and the Magpies are hoping it helps their cause.

While it has not been long since he recovered from injury, Solanke is already outperforming the Newcastle duo. He has a better finishing metric and is winning more duels per 90. Despite Spurs’ struggles, the Magpies will have to break the bank for Solanke, and they do seem willing to do it.
