Aston Villa and Fulham keen on Romulo Cardoso

Aston Villa and Fulham are reportedly interested in exploring a move for the in-demand Romulo Cardoso, the RB Leipzig striker.

According to Sports Boom, Romulo Cardoso is on the radar of Fulham and Aston Villa, with the Premier League duo looking for a new striker. The RB Leipzig star’s profile suits the requirements of the Premier League, while the German side will demand a significant fee to part ways with him.

RB Leipzig may have taken their time to negotiate the sale of Benjamin Sesko in the summer, but they were swift in bringing in a replacement. Romulo Cardoso arrived from Goztepe in a deal that represented a club-record sale for the Turkish side.

He has taken no time to settle into life in Germany, as his seven goals and four assists demonstrate. More than the numbers, Romulo has impressed with his hold-up play and his ability to pin defenders, which could be a major asset in the Premier League.

Fulham were keen on him in the summer, and they are currently in the running to sign the Brazilian ahead of the next window. Aston Villa are also interested in exploring a move for the 11-goal-contribution Bundesliga forward, as Unai Emery seeks a new option, especially amid reports linking Ollie Watkins with a move away.

Fulham are anticipating the departure of Raul Jimenez and believe the 6ft 4in RB Leipzig man would be an ideal replacement for the Mexican. The current demands of the Premier League, particularly for strikers, make Romulo a perfect fit, and Fulham will want to explore a move early, with Leipzig reportedly seeking at least €55–60 million.

Romulo to the Premier League?

Romulo’s profile fits the mould of the strikers many Premier League sides are looking for, and Aston Villa are also in the mix. Emery’s side were recently linked with Jonathan David, and there are more names in the frame, including the Leipzig striker.

A move to the Premier League could suit Romulo as he looks to further his career in the game. It remains to be seen whether there are other teams, apart from Aston Villa and Fulham, in the race, as Leipzig could feel they might lose a starting striker in consecutive summer windows.
