Michael Carrick approves Manchester United summer exit for Andre Onana

Peter Schmeichel claims Andre Onana upset the whole Manchester United team against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday..

Michael Carrick has reportedly greenlit the idea of offloading Andre Onana from Manchester United ahead of the summer.

According to Fichajes, Andre Onana has no future at Manchester United, with Michael Carrick approving of the idea of offloading the Cameroonian keeper. Signed from Inter Milan in an expensive deal, the current on-loan Trabzonspor star has no future whatsoever at Old Trafford moving forward.

Manchester United made some hard decisions last summer when it came to shipping off some of their underperforming stars from the previous regime. Chief among those was Erik ten Hag signing Andre Onana, who arrived at Old Trafford in a €51 million deal from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

Despite initially impressing between the sticks, Onana’s game quickly revolved around his errors and lack of reading of the game. Many of his errors during his two full seasons at Old Trafford have proved costly, including the horrific loss to Grimsby Town that knocked Manchester United out of the EFL Cup.

Soon after that result, the club made a decision to ship him off, as he joined Trabzonspor on loan for the remainder of the season. While the Turkish outfit are not expected to make the signing permanent, Manchester United have made their mind to offload Andre Onana next summer.

Michael Carrick has also approved the idea ahead of the summer, as there is still a chance the Englishman remains in charge beyond his temporary role in the dugout. The arrival of Senne Lammens as the €51 million Manchester United flop’s replacement has worked out so far, with the Belgian stopper proving pivotal for the club’s push for a top-four finish.

What next for Andre Onana?

Onana had dreams of resurrecting his Manchester United career earlier, but those plans are currently out of the window. The Cameroonian stopper was recently linked with a move back to Serie A, where he could find some viable suitors that may look to take him on permanently.

Andre Onana was recently linked with a return to Inter Milan, and the move back to the San Siro remains an option. Any move will depend on his asking price and whether the Nerazzuri or other Serie A clubs can afford the same. As for Manchester United, they are ready to find a new buyer for the Cameroonian star at the earliest.
