Real Madrid join Arsenal in Daniel Svensson chase

Roberto Firmino could become surprise target for Arsenal soon.

Real Madrid are eager to take a strong position in the race for Daniel Svensson ahead of the summer, with Arsenal one of those keen.

According to Fichajes, Daniel Svensson has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid as they look to address their defensive depth in the summer. The left-back position is something the Spanish giants want to strengthen in, and want to position strongly in the hunt for the Borussia Dortmund star amid links to Arsenal.

Daniel Svensson is currently one of the most talented left-backs in Europe, and the level of rising interest in the left-back is proof. The Borussia Dortmund star is primed for bigger things, as a summer departure from the Bundesliga seems likely.

A host of teams have shown interest before, and the Premier League was considered a more likely destination for the defender. Dortmund, for their part, are not expected to come in his way should the Swede choose to leave, with the Bundesliga giants reportedly demanding at least €30 million to sell him.

Arsenal are one of those showing an interest, and while Mikel Arteta’s side have a plethora of options in his position, it won’t be surprising if they come in with an offer. Whether that is a team that Svensson will want to play for amid the top-level competition there remains to be seen, but having the Gunners as a suitor will at least showcase that the Swedish star is playing very well for Dortmund.

Real Madrid have now entered the race for Svensson, as the Spanish giants are eager to make it clear they are heavily interested in the defender. Florentino Perez is eyeing some changes to his backline, and a left back is one of the priorities ahead of the summer.

Are Real Madrid the favourites for Daniel Svensson?

Real Madrid’s stature in the market will almost guarantee them a player they desire, and that could play out strongly in the Svensson chase. The €30 million-rated wide man is seen as a key target for those in charge at the club, as they plan on selling Fran Garcia next summer.

Garcia has underperformed for the club, and once he leaves, Real Madrid are not interested in wasting time securing a replacement. Moreover, there could be potential exits for the experienced David Alaba, as well as Ferland Mendy, should Svensson arrive, as Perez would want the €30 million-rated wide man to compete with the likes of Alvaro Carerras next year for the left-back spot.
