Alvaro Arbeloa’s Real Madrid are looking to sign Liverpool defensive mainstay Ibrahima Konate on modest wages.
Ibrahima Konate’s future has been a massive talking point for almost a year now. The French international was linked with a move away last summer, with just a year left on his deal. However, things didn’t work out for him, and he ended up staying at Anfield.
While Liverpool were optimistic about securing his future with a new deal, the player seems to have different ideas about his future. He is reportedly interested in trying out a different challenge and Real Madrid is beleived to be a dream club for him.
According to a report from Fichajes, Los Blancos have revived interest in the French centre-back, who is free to sign a pre-agreement with foreign clubs over a free transfer. The Spanish giants are looking to sign the 26-year-old on modest wages despite all the competition.
Konate made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2021. He has only gone from strength to strength since and has played a big part in all the success the Reds have had. While he remains an integral part of Arne Slot’s plans, his future is up in the air because of his contract situation.
Real Madrid have revived interest in Konate
Real Madrid were interested in him back in the day as well, but they decided against making a move because of his high financial demands. While they cooled interest back in the day, he is back on their radar. But they do have a condition before they push for his services.
Konate will have to adjust his demands and settle for a modest salary if he wants to join the European giants. The Real Madrid hierarchy has already made it known that the 26-year-old will have to accept a massive pay cut for the move to go through.
If the defender lowers his demands, the deal could be finalised quite quickly. Both parties might reach an agreement before the end of the ongoing campaign.
