Ipswich Town table bid to sign Joel Piroe

Ipswich Town have reportedly tabled a bid for Joel Piroe to sign the attacker permanently, but a deal looks unlikely.

According to Joost Blaauwhof, Ipswich Town have tabled an offer to sign 26-year-old Leeds United attacker Joel Piroe this month. The Premier League promotion hopefuls wanted to sign the Dutch striker permanently, but the Dutch attacker does not seem interested in a move back to the Championship.

Joel Piroe was instrumental in Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League last season, finishing the season as the top scorer in the Championship. However, Leeds United appeared to have moved on from the Dutchman’s influence, given that Daniel Farke tends to use other options this season in the top flight.

Summer arrivals of Lukas Nmecha and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have pushed the 26-year-old Leeds United attacker down in the pecking order. Piroe barely gets game time, which has led to speculation surrounding his immediate future.

Leeds United have reportedly decided to keep him amid interest from Celtic and Rangers, although a late departure would need the club to sign a replacement. Farke may not be using Piroe, but he still feels the 26-year-old Leeds United attacker could play a key role in the second part of the season if needed. In any case, the club remains linked with Jorgen Strand Larsen, and should he arrive, they could think about selling Joel Piroe.

Ipswich Town have reportedly made an offer for Piroe with a view to signing the player permanently. While Leeds United’s stance on the offer remains unclear, the 26-year-old has no interest in returning to the Championship.

No Ipswich Town move for Joel Piroe?

Piroe had reportedly snubbed advances from many other Championship sides, as he does not want to take a step back in his career. Ipswich, who are the Premier League promotion hopefuls at this point in their season, as they are very much in the mix for the title, while a playoff spot seems certain at the end of the season if they cannot achieve automatic promotion.

They have looked at some striker options, including West Ham’s Callum Wilson, when reports stated the Hammers could terminate the veteran’s contract. With Wilson now unavailable, Piroe seemed like a good option given his performances in the division last season, but the player is not keen on the move, with the deal effectively off as things stand.
