Tottenham could have to wait to seal Andrew Robertson deal, Kostas Tsimikas set to return

Tottenham may have to wait a while longer before they can seal the Andrew Robertson move, while Kostas Tsimikas lies in wait for a return.

According to Ben Jacobs, Liverpool are planning to use Andrew Robertson for the next games, which potentially indicates Tottenham may have to wait a little longer before signing him. Kostas Tsimikas is reporteldy eyed as a replacement for the Scotsman, as Liverpool are planning to recall the Greek from his loan spell at Roma.

Tottenham have made it clear about their intentions to sign Andrew Robertson this month as they seek cover for their injured defender Ben Davies. The latter has gone through back-to-back surgeries to solve an ankle issue, which is effectively set to rule him out for the long term and even places his World Cup hopes in jeopardy.

Robertson is coming to the end of his deal at Liverpool and could effectively walk away on a Bosman deal in the summer. It appears, Tottenham have a verbal agreement for Robertson, but they may have to wait a little longer before signing the experienced full-back.

Robertson is currently playing for Liverpool away at Bournemouth, and is now widely expected to even feature in the midweek Champions League game. However, at that game, he could bid farewell to the Anfield crowd, as a move to Tottenham could materialize right after.

Liverpool also contemplates recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma, with the Italian side green-lighting the idea for the Greek to return to Anfield. He is seen as a replacement for Robertson, rather than the club dipping into the market to make a new signing.

Is Robertson the right signing for Spurs?

Tottenham have struggled with fitness issues with their defenders this term, specifically in the left-back role. Destiny Udogie has had his persistent fitness issues since the start of the campaign, while Ben Davies’ injury now puts Spurs in a spot of bother, as they originally planned on signing Robertson in the summer on a free transfer.

The idea of replacing Ben Davies with the experienced Robertson makes sense as Spurs are angling to compete on multiple fronts with different objectives. The Scotsman will be a cheap recruit in terms of the meny spent and boasts vast exprrience in the league, which will work in Tottenham;s favour.
