Julian Alvarez has been linked with a move away from Atletico Madrid in recent months, but Liverpool will not pursue him.
Julian Alvarez has been exceptional for Atletico Madrid since arriving from Atletico Madrid, and he has been a target for clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal and Barcelona. According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool and Arsenal considered signing the Argentine international in the summer transfer window, but opted to move for other players instead.
Alvarez has continued his exceptional form for Atletico Madrid, and there is no doubt that he is one of the best strikers in the world right now. Barcelona are hoping to secure his signature. The Blaugrana have been monitoring his progress for quite some time, and they believe he could be the ideal long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
Meanwhile, Barcelona have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of the Argentina international. Liverpool are unlikely to make a move for Alvarez, especially after spending £125 million on Alexander Isak. That gives Barcelona a clear run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner. It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done.
Liverpool unlikely to move for Julian Alvarez
Pete O’Rourke said, “We know Barcelona are long-term admirers of Julian Alvarez. They showed interest in him last summer but weren’t able to get anything done because of their financial situation, and obviously Atletico Madrid didn’t want to lose him.
“He’s a top player, Alvarez, a regular goalscorer for Atletico since his move from Man City. I’m sure Atletico don’t really want to lose him, but come the summer, I’m sure there will be clubs monitoring the situation and ready to move for Alvarez.
“Liverpool and Arsenal both looked at him last summer as well, but obviously they looked elsewhere to strengthen their attacks, with the likes of Alexander Isak moving to Liverpool and Arsenal moving for Viktor Gyokeres as well. I think that would probably rule them out for next season unless there are other attacking departures at both of those clubs.”
Julian Alvarez has proven himself at the club level for his country. He has all the tools to develop into a world-class player. The 25-year-old is a complete forward, and Barcelona should do everything in their power to get the deal done. However, signing him will not be easy, and Atletico Madrid is likely to demand a high price. It will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.
