Villarreal are interested in signing Tottenham attacker Mathys Tel, who is pushing for a move away in the ongoing transfer window.
Villarreal have been on fire in the ongoing season. They are currently third in La Liga, just eight points behind leaders Barcelona with a game in hand. While their Champions League performances have been very disappointing, they are completely focused on maintaining their incredible run in the league.
The Yellow Submarine are looking at the winter transfer window as an opportunity to further bolster their squad. They want to add more quality to their attack, and according to a report from Fichajes, Villarreal have their eyes set on Tottenham’s Mathys Tel.
After things didn’t work out for him at Bayern Munich, he joined Tottenham at the start of 2025 on an initial loan deal with a buy option. He had a promising start to life in North London, and the move was made permanent last summer.
However, things haven’t gone according to plan for Tel since. Thomas Frank, who took charge ahead of the 2025/26 season, doesn’t seem to have enough faith in the youngster and has only handed him 685 minutes of first-team action so far.
Villarreal are plotting a raid on Tottenham for Tel
The 20-year-old forward is frustrated by the lack of minutes and is already considering parting ways with Spurs in the ongoing transfer window. Villarreal have emerged as a potential destination, as Marcelino is desperate for more firepower to compete with the best teams in Spain.
They are considering his services on loan for now, as they want to allow him the opportunity to regain his best form before looking to sign him on a permanent basis. Securing his signature won’t be that straightforward, as there are other top clubs who want him. However, they are optimistic about the move going through as they are willing to offer him a prominent role in the team.
The departure of Adria Altimira and Manor Solomon has left them short of options in the final third, and the versatile Tel could certainly help their cause. Villarreal are willing to make a significant financial effort to cover his wages. As a result, it will be interesting to see if they can get a deal over the line.
