Manchester United could land RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande for a fee in the region of €60-70 million after missing out on Antoine Semenyo.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United may have to pay a fee in the region of €60-70 million to sign Yan Diomande. Despite earlier claims of a much higher asking price, the Red Devils can land the RB Leipzig star for less, as they could view him as an alternative to Antoine Semenyo.
Manchester United surprised many by going after Antoine Semenyo in the last few days, given how heavily they spent on attackers back in the summer. It’s no surprise that the attractive possibility of landing the Bournemouth star did appeal to the club, who are clearly looking to strengthen the left wing to a degree.
With Manchester City now closing in on a move for Semenyo, Manchester United switched attention towards RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande as an alternative to the Ghanaian international. The London-born attacker has been in dazzling form since he arrived from Leganes in the summer, and is already attracting big interest from top clubs.
Leipzig have no interest in letting Yan Diomande leave in January despite the huge reported interest from clubs, as the Bundesliga club are keen to build the team with him. However, the prospect of playing in the Premier League with a club like Manchester United may attract the Ivory Coast international towards a switch.
Despite claims in reports that Leipzig might demand a fee close to €100 million, it appears Diomande could be made available for a fee in the region of €60-70 million. Even that sum may seem a bit stretched for a 19-year-old winger, with minimal exposure at the top level.
Are Manchester United planning a Yan Diomande swoop?
Manchester United may have looked at the idea of a new left winger with the intent of strengthening their attack even further after what they did back in the summer. The left wing is an area where they might need a big player, but placing a huge bet on the raw talent of the likes of Diomande may not be the answer.
The Semenyo argument was around the fact that there was a proven player available for a reasonable price, as Diomande cannot be viewed as an alternative to the Ghanaian international. Hence, it is realistic to think the Red Devils may not spend significantly on the 19-year-old Ivorian winger at this moment of the season.
