Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti is reportedly pushing the club to sign Newcastle United midfield star Sandro Tonali.
According to a report from Sport.Virgilio, Juventus remain keen on signing Sandro Tonali, and now their boss Luciano Spalletti is pushing the Serie A giants to sign the former AC Milan star. However, striking a deal with Newcastle United won’t be that straightforward.
Tonali made a name for himself at AC Milan, and on the back of an impressive rise, Newcastle forked out €61 million, including bonuses, to sign the Italian international. He has only gone from strength to strength since and is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old has been involved in 25 matches across competitions this season and has even bagged four goals. While he plays in a deeper role at the Tyneside club, Tonali is capable enough to take up any role in midfield. His abilities as a deep-lying playmaker are second to none.
While his contract at Newcastle runs until the summer of 2028 and he is an integral part of their plans, he has often been linked with a move back to Italy. Juventus are one of the clubs that have a long-standing interest in him.
Juventus keen on signing Tonali
The Old Lady have been tracking him for some time now, and reports suggest he might be interested in a switch. The Italian giants retain interest in him, and he remains a target for them to bolster their midfield.
Luciano Spalletti, who took charge at the Turin-based club last summer, is keen on adding more quality to his midfield on a priority basis as he looks to help the club win the league. He considers Tonali an ideal playmaker for his team and is pushing the club to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.
However, securing his services in the upcoming transfer window is next to impossible. Newcastle signed him for €61 million, and his value has gone up to around €75 million. Making such a massive investment in the winter window is beyond Juventus’ capability at this point.
More importantly, Newcastle are unlikely to let go of one of their best players mid-season. Juventus will have to wait until the summer to try their luck. If the Magpies don’t improve their performances in the league, the Old Lady might actually stand a chance of signing him.
