Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester United are all keen on bringing Scott McTominay back to the Premier League.
According to a report from Calciomercato, Scott McTominay could be heading back to the English top flight as Tottenham, Newcastle United and Manchester United are all interested in signing him. While he has been doing wonders for Napoli, the Scottish international is considering his long-term future, and a move back to the Premier League can’t be ruled out.
McTominay came up the ranks at Manchester United. He got promoted to their first team back in 2017, and after a seven-year-long spell in their senior side, he ended up making the move to Napoli in the summer of 2024 in a deal worth £26 million.
The 29-year-old had lost prominence at Old Trafford, and he ended up moving to Italy with the hope of reviving his career. McTominay has only gone from strength to strength since making the move, and he has been one of their standout performers in the recent season.
His debut campaign at Napoli was the most productive of his career, as he bagged 13 goals and played a massive part in their Scudetto triumph. He has carried that form into the new season, and with Kevin De Bruyne and Frank Zambo Anguissa out injured, he stepped up and helped them win the Supercoppa Italiana in Riyadh.
While he seems to be loving life at the Serie A club, the 29-year-old has constantly been linked with a move back to England. Reports suggest that all the attention he gets is making life difficult for him off the pitch.
Premier League trio looking to bring McTominay back
McTominay is reportedly evaluating his long-term future amidst interest from Newcastle, Tottenham and Manchester United. The Magpies seek more competition in the centre of the park, while Thomas Frank isn’t pleased with his midfield options and is looking for a major upgrade.
Meanwhile, United are also desperate to have more options in the centre of the park. With Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte’s long-term future uncertain, bringing McTominay back will certainly make a lot of sense.
Given his connections at the club, the player could certainly consider going back to his childhood club. The door to a return to Old Trafford hasn’t been closed from either end. However, a potential transfer won’t be that straightforward for any of the clubs, given his importance at Napoli under Antonio Conte.
