La Liga trio Celta Vigo, Sevilla, and Real Oviedo are angling for a surprise move to bring Jesse Lingard to Spain as his FC Seoul contract is set to expire.
According to Fichajes, Jesse Lingard is a surprise target for La Liga trio Celta Vigo, Sevilla, and Real Oviedo ahead of the January transfer window. The 33-year-old former Manchester United midfielder is set to be a free agent as his contract with South Korean side FC Seoul is set to expire in a few days.
Jesse Lingard spent most of his career at Manchester United, making 232 appearances for the club across all competitions. While he has had short spells at at least seven other clubs, most of them from England, the 33-year-old former Manchester United midfielder has played the second most games for South Korean outfit FC Seoul.
While his career looked to be over two years ago, FC Seoul took their bet on the Englishman and offered him a two-year deal. In South Korea, Lingard has found his rhythm again, as he is one of the most influential players in the league.
With 19 goals and 10 assists in 67 appearances across all competitions, Jesse Lingard found an important career move, although he might have the chance to make a return to Europe. La Liga trip, Celta Vigo, Real Oviedo and Sevilla are all angling to bring the 33-year-old former Manchester United midfielder to Spain, as his ready availability makes him a good short to medium term option.
Lingard’s deal with FC Seoul will expire on January 1, when he completes his two-year stay. The indications are that he will leave the Asian outfit, as there is no news on a potential renewal, meaning he could be free for a move elsewhere.
Will Jesse Lingard move to Spain?
There are obvious questions as to why Real Oviedo, Sevilla, or Celta Vigo want Lingard as part of their plans for the second half of the season and beyond. The fact that the English midfielder is available on a free and his experience is still seen as valuable, which does make a lot of sense for some of the financially struggling sides.
While Lingard may consider returning from South Korea, the idea of joining a club in La Liga might seem appealing to a certain degree. Given the lack of top-level options in front of him, Jesse Lingard may consider taking up an opportunity with one of those three Spanish sides.
