Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos is reportedly unlikely to continue at La Liga club Sevilla beyond this season.
According to AS via Sport Witness, Odysseas Vlachodimos, who is enjoying an impressive loan spell at Sevilla, is unlikely to join them on a permanent basis. While he has no future at Newcastle United, the Spanish club will still struggle to sign him because of the finances involved.
Vlachodimos joined the Magpies in the summer of 2024 from Nottingham Forest. The Greek shot-stopper ended up making just one appearance for Eddie Howe’s team in his debut campaign. Frustrated by the lack of minutes, he was keen on making a move away.
He ended up joining Sevilla in August on a season-long loan deal. The move has certainly helped the 31-year-old revive his fortunes. Odysseas Vlachodimos has been a regular starter for them, and he has featured in 14 matches so far. He has conceded 20 goals and has kept a clean sheet on three occasions.
Even the La Liga outfit are keen on securing his services on a permanent basis as he has been a key figure under Matias Almeyda. However, they are unlikely to get their hands on him despite the fact that he has no future at Newcastle United.
Sevilla won’t be able to afford signing Vlachodimos
While the Magpies will be more than willing to sell Odysseas Vlachodimos, Sevilla might not be able to afford a deal given their delicate financial situation. More importantly, the interest in him keeps increasing with every impressive performance, and the competition for his signature will make things even more difficult.
The Greek goalkeeper is set to return to Newcastle United next summer. But since he is not a part of their long-term plans, the Magpies will look to cash in on him. Multiple top clubs are expected to table offers for the 31-year-old.
While Sevilla would have loved to strike a deal for him, they cannot afford his massive wages as well as the transfer fee. The Magpies are already covering a significant part of his salary while he is on loan at the Spanish club. He is currently valued at €4 million, but the Tyneside club will surely look for a much higher fee given his recent performances.
