Manchester United are looking to improve their defensive unit in the coming months, and they have now compiled a comprehensive shortlist of defenders they could look to sign.
A report from TEAMtalk has claimed that Manchester United are looking at ten different defenders who could help them improve at the back. It will be interesting to see who they move for in the near future.
“I am hearing that Man United have a shortlist being drawn up as they look at names to target for the defence in 2026,” Dean Jones said. “I was told there are around ten names on the list – a couple from within the Premier League, but most from elsewhere in Europe.
“It’s becoming an area of more concern recently, because suddenly without Mazraoui, De Ligt and Maguire available you start to wonder how a three-man defence is sustainable.
“Lisandro is back in the frame, but obviously you have to have some caution about what can be expected of him as he returns and, from what I understand, United are just keen to get in another player of some pedigree to make sure they are continuing to evolve.”
Manchester United have looked vulnerable at the back this season, and they need to improve in that area of the pitch. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. The Red Devils will need to bring in quality defenders if they want to compete at a high-level and fight for major trophies.
They are one of the biggest clubs in England, but they have not been able to compete at a high-level in recent years. Manchester United have shown progress this season, but they need to improve further if they want to compete with the elite clubs. Signing the right players will help them bounce back strongly.
They need to find a quality alternative to Harry Maguire. On the other hand, Lisandro Martinez has suffered from injuries recently, and they need more depth. Widespread reports have linked the Premier League bigwigs with several centre-backs, including Honest Ahanor.
It is no surprise that Manchester United have compiled ten-man shortlist of defenders they are looking to sign. The Red Devils are unlikely to sign several players, but they should still look to bring in a couple of quality defenders next summer. It remains to be seen how the situation develops. They must look to improve the other areas of the team as well, but improving defensively should be their priority.
