FC Koln eyeing Sebastiaan Bornauw loan swoop

FC Koln are reportedly looking to acquire the services of Leeds United’s 2025 summer signing, Sebastiaan Bornauw, on loan.

FC Koln are keen on reinforcing their backline in the upcoming transfer window, and according to a report from Bild, the Bundesliga club are keen on re-signing Sebastiaan Bornauw, who was a part of their setup back in the day.

Bornauw made a name for himself at Wolfsburg before joining Leeds United ahead of the ongoing campaign. While the Yorkshire-based club had massive expectations from the 26-year-old Belgian international, he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a key figure in the team.

He has only had two minutes of Premier League action so far. Having failed to gain the trust of Daniel Farke, Bornauw could actually end up leaving the club in the upcoming transfer window. While a permanent transfer looks unlikely, Leeds United, who may be active in January, could sanction a loan deal provided their demands are met.

FC Koln want to re-sign Bornauw in January

FC Koln have emerged as a potential destination for the Leeds United defender. Before joining Wolfsburg in 2021, he spent two seasons at Koln, during which he made a total of 57 appearances and even contributed towards eight goals.

The Billy Goats are well aware of his abilities, and they are willing to bet on him in a time of injury crisis at the back. Koln was a big stepping stone in Bornauw’s career; as a result, he could certainly be interested in a return.

With Timo Hubers and Luca Kilian sidelined for the rest of the season due to serious knee injuries and Joel Schmied also out injured, the German club are desperate for a new central defender. Bornauw is a top target for them, and with him struggling for game time at Leeds United, they feel there is a realistic chance of acquiring his services.

The Bundesliga outfit are internally discussing the possibility of signing him. While a permanent transfer for the struggling Leeds United defender won’t be feasible for them, the Billy Goats are looking to initially bring him back on a temporary basis.
