Manchester United are reportedly looking at upgrading over Patrick Dorgu, with Nathaniel Brown and Valentino Livramento mentioned as targets.
According to Caught Offside, Patrick Dorgu’s long-term future has been called into question as Manchester United are looking to upgrade over the Dane. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and Newcastle United’s Valentino Livramento are being mentioned as key targets, with Arsenal and Manchester City linked with Brown and Livramento, respectively.
Manchester United are playing a specific style of football under Ruben Amorim, as the Portuguese manager places plenty of emphasis on wing-backs. Since he arrived from Sporting CP last year, the Red Devils boss has not had the luxury of having out-and-out wing-backs, with natural wingers and defenders being tasked to play in that crucial role on either flank.
Patrick Dorgu, for instance, has blown hot and cold from a wing-back perspective, while the right-hand side does not have a clear-cut option as things stand. Names like Daniel Munoz have been mentioned recently as an option on the right, while the report now states Manchester United could look to upgrade on Dorgu’s position in future windows, probably even in January.
Bournemouth’s Adrien Truffert was linked recently, but the Red Devils are looking at a variety of options in the market. Among those are Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown and Newcastle United’s Valentino Livramento, as signing either of those wide players will prove tricky.
Brown also has teams like Arsenal chasing for his signature, as Manchester United may look to accelerate their pursuit to get a deal in place. The one-cap German international is playing well at Frankfurt, and could be viewed as an upgrade over Dorgu, with Manchester United probably even thinking about a January approach or one in the future.
Is Valentino Livramento a realistic target?
Manchester United were indeed interested in Livramento, although they are set to face intense competition for the Newcastle United star from arch-rivals Manchester City. Pep Guardiola has wanted the full-back for some time, and given the interest from the Red Devils, there are doubts whether a wing-back role truly suits him.
The player’s versatility could be wasted in the wide role at Manchester United, as Manchester City are seen as his more likely suitors. Yet, there is every chance the Red Devils will look to take a chance on the Newcastle United star with a firm approach, although the probability of him signing for them may seem low.
