Barcelona and Liverpool will have to fork out £50 million to sign Atalanta midfield mainstay Ederson Dos Santos.
Barcelona and Liverpool are believed to be massive admirers of Ederson Dos Santos, and they would love to secure the Atalanta midfielder’s services in the near future.
According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the European giants will have to fork out close to £50 million to sign him, as the Italian club have placed a price tag of £40-50 million on the Brazilian international.
O’Rourke on Ederson’s potential departure
While speaking about the increasing interest in Ederson, O’Rourke said: “Yeah, he’s been linked with the Premier League for a number of years now. He’s a top player, Ederson, there’s no getting anywhere from that.
“So he has got the ability, I think, to go to the Premier League and be a success.
“It does look like Liverpool are in need of a bit of physicality and energy in that midfield and in the team in general so I’m sure he’s somebody who’s maybe on their list that they’re looking at, but as you said there’s other clubs who are looking at him.
“Manchester City have been credited with an interest, Newcastle have also been credited with an interest and Barcelona are big admirers of him as well.
“I think for Atalanta right now he’s under contract until 2027 so if no new deal can be agreed you would imagine the Italian club could maybe be more open to cashing in on Ederson in the summer.
“He probably could be available for between 40 to 50 million pounds in the current market.
“If he’s available at that price next summer, he could be a real smart pickup by somebody in the Premier League.”
Ederson has only gone from strength to strength since joining Atalanta from Salernitana in the summer of 2022. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but the 26-year-old is also widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the Serie A.
His impressive performances in the Italian top flight have helped him break into the Brazil national team, and it has also resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe. With his contract running out in the summer of 2027, the interest in him seems to be at an all-time high.
Atalanta want to extend his stay at the club, but that seems unlikely. While they would prefer selling him next summer, they can’t risk him entering the final year of his deal, and are aware of the fact that the next two windows are their final opportunities to bag a decent fee from his sale.
Liverpool and Barcelona to battle for Ederson
The Italian clubs have slapped a price tag of £40-50 million, as they look to make the most out of a potential departure. Clubs like Liverpool and Barcelona consider that to be a bargain fee for some of his quality.
They are willing to make such a significant investment to sign the 26-year-old. Arne Slot seeks more physicality in the centre of the park, and Ederson can certainly help his cause, given his track record in Italy.
Meanwhile, Barcelona also seek more quality and depth in midfield. The Spanish giants want to bring in a world-class midfielder to increase competition for places, and they admire Ederson a lot.
With both clubs ready to battle for his signature, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Ederson has often been linked with a move to the Premier League, and Liverpool surely will have a financial advantage, with the Catalan giants struggling to balance their books.
