Liverpool, Newcastle United told to pay £13 million to sign Alex Toth

Liverpool and Newcastle United will have to fork out £13 million if they want to sign Hungarian international Alex Toth.

Hungarian wonderkid Alex Toth has attracted a lot of interest following his sensational rise at Ferencvaros. With his contract running out, European giants are looking to secure his services for a bargain fee in the near future.

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Newcastle United and Liverpool are two English giants that are keen on his signature, and they could secure his services for around £13-15 million.

Alex Toth has come up the ranks at Ferencvaros, and he has been a part of their first team since the start of 2024. He has been a consistent performer for them, and it has helped him establish himself as a regular feature in the Hungarian national team.

Liverpool are also keen on Alex Toth

While he prefers playing as a number eight, the 20-year-old is equally effective in a number six or a number ten role. Toth is believed to have a playing style that is quite similar to that of Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

The similarity between Alex Toth and Dominik Szoboszlai might be one of the reasons why the Reds are also interested in their number 8’s compatriot. The Merseyside club have joined Newcastle United in the race for his signature.

The Tyneside club are looking to reinforce their midfield unit amidst uncertainty around  Joe Willock’s future and their inability to reunite Eddie Howe with Elliot Anderson.

Bundesliga clubs could rival Newcastle United and Liverpool

Amidst all the disappointment, Newcastle United and Liverpool have the opportunity to land the Hungarian sensation for a bargain fee. However, they might face significant competition from German clubs.

While speaking on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said, “There is a lot of interest from Bundesliga clubs in the 20-year-old as well. It could be a good option for a number of clubs because of his contract situation as he’s under contract until 2027.

“So if no new deal is agreed, some of those interested parties could test Ferencvaros’ resolve to keep hold of him in the summer and he might be available for a sort of cut price fee of around £13-15million. I think he’s a player that Newcastle will continue to monitor. I don’t think it’s a priority for them right now.”

While Bundesliga clubs have their eyes set on him, it will be interesting to see if they can beat Newcastle United to his signature. With his contract running out in 2027, Ferencvaros are pushing for a new deal. But if they fail to secure his long-term future, they might have to consider letting him leave for as little as £13-15 million.
