Brentford set to resist Igor Thiago sale in January amid exit links

Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Brentford attacker Igor Thiago.

Igor Thiago’s sensational start to the season hasn’t gone unnoticed as a host of top clubs in the Premier League are ready to raid Brentford in January. Aston Villa, Tottenham, and Newcastle United are all keen on signing the Brazilian striker.

But, according to a report from TEAMtalk, all three clubs have suffered a blow as Brentford won’t negotiate his departure mid-season. They have dismissed suggestions that he could be allowed to leave in the upcoming transfer window.

Thiago has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Bees in the summer of 2024 in a club record deal worth over £30 million. While he spent the majority of his debut campaign on the sidelines, the 24-year-old has been on fire this season.

He has been involved in a total of 15 matches across competitions and has bagged 12 goals. Following a few key departures from the club last summer, the Brazilian has taken over as their main man, and he is certainly leading by example.

His performances have forced Carlo Ancelotti to consider having him in his squad for the World Cup next summer. He also finds himself on the wishlist of a number of Premier League clubs.

Premier League trio plot a raid on Brentford

Tottenham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa have all been keeping tabs on him of late. However, sources close to Brentford have informed that they are not even considering letting him leave anytime soon.

He will not be available in the winter window, and any club that enquires about him will be informed about the Bees’ stance immediately. With his contract running until 2029, Brentford are in complete control of his future.

The player is very happy in West London, and he is not looking to push for an exit at this point. While all three clubs are in desperate need of more firepower, they will have to shift their focus towards other targets as Brentford won’t sell Thiago irrespective of the size of the offer.
