Real Madrid unsure about chasing Ibrahima Konate

Real Madrid have doubts about signing Liverpool defensive mainstay Ibrahima Konate because of his current form.

Ibrahima Konate’s future has been uncertain for some time now. With the French centre-back entering the final year of his deal at Liverpool, multiple top clubs want to sign him. Real Madrid are one of them and are considered out-and-out favourites to secure his services on a free transfer next summer.

Reports have suggested that a move to Los Blancos is very likely. However, according to a report from Fichajes, the team in white are now having doubts about signing the 26-year-old. Konate hasn’t been in the best of form in recent weeks, and this has created uncertainty among the board regarding his incorporation.

Konate made a name for himself at RB Leipzig before joining the Merseyside club in the summer of 2021. He has only gone from strength to strength since and has established himself as one of the mainstays in the Liverpool first-team.

While he remains a go-to man for Arne Slot at the back, Konate’s future is up in the air as his contract runs out at the end of the season. He doesn’t seem to be keen on extending his stay at the club, and European giants are ready to snap him up on a free transfer.

Los Blancos are on the lookout for a new centre-back despite having added Dean Huijsen to their squad in the summer. With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba entering the final year of their contracts, the team in white are looking to prepare for the future.

Madrid are not certain about signing Konate

They have their eyes on the free transfer market, and there are quite a few options at their disposal. Some top-quality defenders could be out of contract next summer, and Real Madrid are looking to make the most out of it.

Konate has been quite high on their wishlist, with reports suggesting a deal is almost done as the player has his heart set on a move. While the French centre-back could prove to be a valuable addition to their squad, the Spanish giants’ board are having significant doubts about signing him because of his inconsistent performances in recent weeks.

The Madrid-based club’s sporting directors are considering whether to wait until he is back in form or to start looking at alternatives in the market to strengthen their backline next summer.
